Firm fined 17.5 of profit after worker unhurt in slip

A metalworkfirm has been fined ￡160,000 after an employee slipped and almost fell through a fragile asbestos cement roof while he was helping to replace a ceiling fan. The fine represents 17.5% of the firm's latest pre-tax profits and is a further indication of the effect of the new Sentencing Council guideline on setting penalties for health and safety offences (HSB 445 p.19).
