How to survive a ￡104m loss

Following February's damp squib of a new strategy (HSB 447 p.4), the HSE has published a Business plan that sets out what it plans to do during the year from April 2016. The plan is notable because it: 1. flags up some potentially significant deregulatory work, including a review of lead and hazardous and dangerous substances legislation; 2. shows the extent of the funding crisis that the HSE faces at least until the end of the decade, when it will receive from the government ￡104 million less in 2019/20 than it did in 2011/12; 3. contains no legislative proposals for tackling the most common causes of occupational ill health, ie stress and musculoskeletal disorders; 4. markedly downplays coverage of the HSE's formal enforcement activities, compared with that of earlier plans.
