US: Alcoa reports 82 growth in 2006 income

ALCOA, the world's largest aluminium producer, has reported an 82% increase in its net income for 2006, boosted by higher metal prices and strong demand for aluminium in the aerospace, commercial transportation and commercial building markets. Net income in the financial year 2006 increased to US$2.25bn, or US$2.57 a share, from US$1.23bn, or US$1.40 a share, in the previous year. Income from continuing operations before restructuring and impairment charges totalled US$2.5bn. Revenue for the full year rose by 19% to US$30.4bn from US$25.6bn a year earlier.
