US: Cobasys and A123Systems to co-develop lithium-ion hybrid batteries

COBASYS and A123Systems have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop, manufacture, sell, and service lithium-ion batteries for hybrid electric vehicles. Under the agreement, A123 Systems and Cobasys will develop, market and supply A123Systems' nanophosphate lithium batteries and Cobasys' systems integration and manufacture of batteries for hybrid vehicle markets. Cobasys will act as a tier one supplier offering technical assistance and expertise for the design and development of batteries, including packaging, thermal management, wiring, electronics and control algorithms. It will also help to develop the specifications to meet requirements of customers and partners and conduct tests of fully integrated lithium batteries. A123Systems will manufacture and supply its nanophosphate lithium-ion cells and technology.
