India: Government planning mandatory ABS for all vehicles

THE government of India is likely to make anti-lock braking systems (ABS) a must on all vehicles, an Economic Times report states, citing road secretary Vijay Singh. The newspaper says a committee, led by former secretary in the ministry of surface transport, S Sundar, will establish a National Road Safety Board. The union minister of shipping, road transport and highways will have to approve the committee's recommendations first. The draft bill will then be sent to the department of legal affairs, as it requires a legally enforceable Act, Singh notes.
