Aldi Stores has been fined ￡1 million, with ￡70,000 costs, after a worker sustained severe crush injuries to his foot. The fine represents 0.47% of Aldi Stores' most recent pre-tax profit of ￡212,621,000, which it made on a turnover of ￡7,705,140,000 in 2015. The incident occurred on 7 November 2013 at an Aldi store in Somercotes, Derbyshire. A delivery driver, who does not want to be named, was in the second week of a new job, working alone, delivering goods. The visit was his third to the store. At around 6am, he was using a powered pedestrian-operated pallet truck to offload the goods from his vehicle and place them into the chiller unit. The unit was cramped and he had to re-arrange the items in order to make space.
