Rise in poor quality work threatens health inequity

An increase in "poor quality" work over the past decade is taking its toll on people's mental and physical health and also widening health inequity and inequalities, according to a report1 updating the 2010 Marmot Review of health inequity in England. Commissioned by the Health Foundation and produced by the Institute of Health Equity, the report looks at the social determinants of health and whether health inequalities have altered since 2010. As well as highlighting an alarming fall in life expectancy for women in the most deprived communities outside London, the report concludes that while employment has increased in England, much of it has been precarious and poor quality.
