On 26 January, the HSE published a short summary of the considerations for owners and managers of high-rise residential buildings to help them prepare safety cases. The advice is the first part of a forthcoming toolkit that builds on safety case principles that the HSE published in 2021. The safety case regime will be introduced by the Building Safety Bill, which has completed its House of Commons stages and started its committee hearing in the House of Lords on 21 February. The summary urges owners and managers to "be curious" about their buildings by gathering information about when and how it was built, the intent behind the design, any changes and the measures in place to control building safety risks. Examples of the specific type of information they should seek include: the profile of its residents; height, storeys, numbers and types of flats; common parts; facade and insulation materials; structural condition; services and utilities; and maintenance and inspection.
