Plate tags flat; buyers in ‘wait and see’ mode

Steel plate prices held steady in the United States while service centers paused their buying in order to assess the next steps in the Covid-19 pandemic and its resultant impact on construction and energy demand. Fastmarkets’ weekly price assessment for steel cut-tolength plate carbon grade, fob mill US was unchanged at $30 per hundredweight ($600 per short ton) on Monday April 13. The price, normally assessed on Fridays, was delayed until Monday because of the Good Friday holiday. One year ago, the cut-to-length price was $46 per cwt ($920 per ton).
