摘要

The World Ocean Observatory (W2O) has announced that it will join forces with the Ocean Classroom Foundation (OCF), an educational organization building the next generation of ocean stewards through education under sail. The two non-profit organizations will share information and administrative assets but maintain separate funding sources. Interim Ocean Classroom Foundation Executive Director Peter Neill, founder of World Ocean Observatory, will assume the role of Executive Director for both organizations. In 2004, Mr. Neill founded The World Ocean Observatory to build a global constituency for the oceans by linking aquariums, science centers, museums, schools, governments, NGOs, and individuals to ocean-related information and services via the Internet. Over 500,000 unique visitors from over 155 countries used this free, comprehensive resource in 2008 to inform their curricula, scientific investigations, and policy decisions.
