Newborn screening programme to be extended

Every baby born in the UK will be screened for four new genetic disorders under a new recommendation by the UK National Screening Committee.The NHS Newborn Blood Spot Screening programme will be expanded to screen for homocystinuria (HCU), maple syrup urine disease (MSUD), glutaric aciduria type 1 (GA1) and isovaleric acidaemia (IVA).
