A note on the 3-rank of quadratic fields

The difference between the 3-rank of the idea) class group of an imaginary quadratic field Q(d~(1/2)) and that of the associated real quadratic field Q(~(-3d)~(1/2)) is equal to 0 or 1. In this note, we give an infinite family of examples in each case.
