Kashagan partners slash 2010 costs

Kazakhstan's state-owned KazMunaiGaz has proposed cutting the 2010 budget for the giant Kashagan oil field in the Caspian Sea by almost $3 billion from the initially planned $10.4 billion, a company spokeswoman said January 15, though the total cost of the first phase development has crept higher. The first stage of Kashagan, which aims for first crude by 2012-2013 and full-scale production in 2014, is expected to cost $38 billion, which is higher than a previous estimate of $37 billion that KazMunaiGaz said in July 2009 the consortium was striving to bring down.
