Gazprom unit to trade electricity

A UK-based Gazprom affiliate has applied for a 20-year Bulgarian electricity trading license. Surrey-registered Gazprom Marketing and Trading Ltd - 100% owned by ZMB GmbH and thus, ultimately, by the Russian gas giant - intends to trade an annual 50 million MWh initially, rising gradually to 350 million MWh, its representative Bogdan Preda told the heavyweight local Mediapool news agency. It would start electricity trading within two months, he added, and would also eventually aim to engage in carbon trading.
