Biogas and electricity from food waste: BIOTECH, in India, wins the Food Security Award

Kerala is a relatively prosperous state in South India, with a growing middle-class population. Dealing with waste food is a problem - leaving it for collection attracts vermin and is simply not acceptable in this suburban environment. There is a demand for the clean and hygienic disposal of waste and in 1994 Saji Das set up BIOTECH to focus on ways of managing organic waste to produce alternative sources of energy.
