Textron To Increase Investment In Electric Propulsion Initiatives

Textron is in a key position to take advantage of opportunities in the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) and urban air mobility markets with plans to boost its investment in aviation electrification efforts, its top executive said Jan. 27. “I think the advantage for us is that we have already in the company, the infrastructure and the talent to do these sorts of things,” Scott Donnelly, chairman and CEO of Textron, parent company to Textron Aviation and Bell, said on a fourth-quarter financial call with analysts. “Despite its tilt-rotor leadership, Textron appears to be leaning toward electric fixed-wing designs for cargo (applications),” Cai von Rumohr, Cowen and Co.analyst wrote in a note to investors. “This could allow using electric propulsion on existing fixedwing CTOL aircraft to achieve favorable economics for short-haul freight applications.”
