DESPITE INCREASING ELECTRIFICATION, FORCED INDUCTION REMAINS A CRUCIAL TECHNOLOGY AS OEMs PUSH TO MEET EVER-STRICTER FUEL ECONOMY TARGETS - AND EVOLUTION IS COMING QUICKLY. Once synonymous with aggressively over-boosted performance cars, turbocharging has taken on an entirely different role in the last two decades. In the wake of the 1998 Kyoto Protocol and its resulting focus on vehicle CO_2 emissions, forced induction has been an enabler of better diesel powertrains and downsizing of their gasoline counterparts. With no signs of that pressure alleviating, it's still a technology with room to grow.
