Polish factor in 2004

They could have waited eight hours until the year of Russian Federation in Ukraine was over, however they did not. In fact the first in this year international conference "Ukraine and Poland: strategic partnership in new Europe" has become the first significant event of Year of Poland in Ukraine, although its official opening was scheduled for the beginning of April. Time will show, whether expectations that this event would rather be actual stage of neighboring strategic cooperation development than just formal, would come true. Meanwhile it would be important that President Alexander Kwasnewsky, the main Polish actor, would remain an active supporter of Ukraine integration to the European Union and NATO. He understands Ukrainian problems and aspirations like nobody else. France and Germany cooperate in the West. Similarly, Poland and Ukraine can position themselves in the east of Europe. Boris Tarasyuk, director of institute of transatlantic cooperation (Kiev) and People's Deputy of Ukraine, thinks: "They can perfectly create atmosphere of stable and safe coziness in the new Europe house.
