US SEC to vote on stricter climate disclosure rules

On March 21,the US Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC)will vote on a proposal to expand requirements for publicly traded companies to disclose more about their climate-related risks.The SEC said that these expanded requirements are meant to help investors that are seeking"more consistent and comparable information on climate risks,"SEC Chairman Gary Gensler tweeted.Gensler added,"They want to know how climate-related risks will affect the companies they own.That could mean the physical risks associated with climate change,or it might be the steps those companies are taking to lower risk associated with regulation,or commitments to lower emissions."
