Trees - what are they and how can their variants be identified?

Sources of tree variation are reviewed with particular reference to mycorrhizas, geographical aspects (latitude, longitude and land class effects on provenance) and the influence of rootstocks; aspects which have received little attention in arboricultural studies to date.
