Expanded Canal set to open

The beginning of work on the historic expansion of the Panama Canal through construction of a third set of locks was marked by special ceremony attended by foreign and national dignitaries and some 30,000 Panamanian nationals in September 2007. Nearly nine years later, that huge engineering feat is now close to completion, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) having announced that the new locks will be inaugurated on Sunday June 26th.
