摘要

Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for both commercial and experimental uses, have been under development in many parts of the world in response to several driving forces. Access to good and stable water resources is becoming more limited, regulations to reduce water consumption and improve effluent quality have become more stringent, and the need to have greater control over the culture environment is essential given the trend to increasing stocking density. Sites for coastal aquaculture are becoming scarce, and the cost of land too high for agricultural endeavors. However, the commercial production of marine species, even some with low salinity tolerance, has proved practical in land-based recirculating systems.
