Australian Fish Farm uses a Dutch Hesy System to grow Barramundi

Brian and Elaine Fox started farming fish in a temperature controlled re-circulation system in early 2000. Situated at Garfield, an hour south east of Melbourne on the edge of Victoria's rich Kooweerup horticultural district, they started from scratchand have been learning on the job ever since. Their imported Dutch Hesy system is housed in a 500m~2 insulated shed, and fish are grown from fingerlings to a kilo plus. The quarantine system consists of ten 280-litre tanks connected to a 1.5m~3 bio-filter using a European medium, Bionet~(R) bio-tube, giving a surface area of 300m~2. The nursery and growout systems comprise four 1,000-1, two 1,500-1, two 2,500-1, two 7,500-1, and four 9,500-1 tanks. The system has a production volume of 67.8m~3 and holds 72m~3 of water in total.
