New ideas, new requirements change the face of hatchery technology in the Czech Repuhblic

Aquaculture in the Czech Republic includes traditional techniques of rearing fish, especially common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in ponds, and ornamental fish breeding on small family farms. Situated in Central Europe with no direct access to the sea, theCzech Republic is a major producer of common carp, and has the highest exports in Europe. In addition to tropical ornamental fish farming, there has been a significant increase in ornamental cold water fish breeding in the last few years, in particular for koi carp, different forms of goldfish (Carassius auratus), colour forms of ide (Leuciscus idus), tench (Tinea tinea) and rudd (Scardinus erythrophthalmus).
