New hatchery needed to ease smolt shortage in northern Norway

The fish farming industry in Finnmark (northern Norway) claims to be restrained owing to a smolt shortage. The regional committee for the north of Norway recently issued a report in which they recommended that Finnmark - Norway's most northerly county— and the rest of northern Norway should be prioritised when the government assign new salmon farming licenses. But currently new licenses are not the biggest challenge for the fish farming industry in the area. The main problem is a smolt shortage, reports the local newspaper Finnmarken.
