Saprolegnia is a genus of freshwater mould, also known as "cotton mould" because of the characteristic white or grey fibrous patches it forms. Typically, it feeds on wastefrom fish or other dead cells, but it will also take advantage of creatures thathave been injured or from compromised eggs. Saprolegnia is tolerant to a wide range of temperatures and is found most frequently in freshwater.
