Soybean protein used for partial replacement of fishmeal in the diet of juvenile black sea bass

There is increasing interest, and much research into the replacement of fishmeal with less expensive proteins from plants. The question is: how far can this replacement go? Dr. Shah Alam and his colleagues from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW), USA, have reported preliminary findings from a series of experiments that tested the effect of using solvent-extracted protein (SP) from soybean meal (with or without supplemental amino acids and attractants), as a replacement for menhaden fishmeal protein (FP) in the diet of juvenile black sea bass, Centropristis striata.
