Cognitive decline in incident Alzheimer disease in a community population.

摘要

Wilson et al. report that dementia of the Alzheimer type (DAT) progresses more rapidly than mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This assessment is expected both historically and clinically.The authors report that among the MCI cohort of 395 participants, none progressed to DAT or another type of dementia. If so, then MCI would appear to be a benign condition, even dementia protective. It would be helpful to know if comorbidi-ties (i.e., hypertension, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and renal impairment) were equally represented in the 3 groups: no cognitive impairment, MCI, and DAT.
