摘要

To the Editors: Wright et al. reported an association between prior cardiovascular disease (CVD) and baseline neurocognitive impairment (NCI) in HIV-positive individuals with high CD4 cell counts. The authors' analysis was adjusted for sex, race, location of enrollment, education, body mass index, smoking, alcohol abuse, recreational drug abuse, history of hepatitis B and C, HIV viral load, and CNS penetrative effective rank of antiretroviral therapy (ART). The authors should have also controlled for APOE genotype. APOE may contribute to the association between prior CVD and baseline NCI in HIV-positive individuals.
