The principal objective of our paper (Radvanec et al., 2004) was to constrain the origin of siderite mineralization in the Gemericum using a wide range of Sr isotope data determined on Sr-rich hydrothermal minerals in conjunction with available data from other methods (like, e.g., Pb isotopic compositions of galena). We believe these data demonstrate that the studied veins formed during multiple mineralization events, significantly separated in time, but occurring in identical mineralized structures. Furthermore, we believe the data support a relationship of the main-stage siderite mineralization with Variscan tectonothermal processes. Radvanec et al. (2004) critically reviewed all available data and interpretations concerning siderite mineralizations in Gemericum and did not focus on a detailed discussion of Hurai et al. (2002). Therefore, Hurai (2004) is incorrect in asserting that a substantial part of our paper was devoted to the interpretation of stable isotope data from Hurai et al. (1998, 2002). The section in our paper concerning the C and O isotope chemistry of carbonates consists of two-and-a-half pages (about 8 percent of the paper) and is based on about 150 published stable isotope determinations on samples from the entire region. The data from Hurai et al. (2002) that consisted of 27 determinations of delta~(13)C and delta~(18)O on siderite, 14 of which were on probably late-stage euhedral crystals from the Rudnany deposit, were considered as a small sample set. In the following text we respond to Hurai (2004) in the order of appearance of individual questions in his discussion.
