Clinical features of Parkinson disease when onset of diabetes came first: a case-control study.

Cereda et al. elucidated the telationship between Parkinson disease (PD) and diabetes. The authors concluded that the onset of diabetes before the onset of PD appeared to be a risk factor for more severe PD symptoms. We would like to discuss several issues. First, diabetes is a well-known risk factor for cerebrovascular accidents. Therefore, we would like to ascertain whether there were there any differences in brain CT or MRI scans with respect to ischemic brain lesions between patients with diabetes and those without because multiple infarctions cause parkinsonism. One hypothesis is that small brain vascular lesions may have contributed to the results of this study.
