Unsaturated fatty acids may help prevent antibiotic resistance

In a survey of more than 12 000 microbial extracts,linoleic acid and dehydrocrepenynic acid (9,14-octadecen-12-ynoic acid) were found to be the most active inhibitors of bacterial conjugation,a process which is largely responsible for the spread of multiple antibiotic resistance in human pathogens.
