The Economist Intelligence Unit reports that merchandise exports (free on board-fob) from Costa Rica amounted to US$11.6bn in 2019, roughly unchanged from the previous year. Merchandise imports (fob) totalled US$15.3bn in 2019 to yield a trade deficit of US$3.7bn, compared with imports of US$15.9bn in 2018 and a US$4.3bn deficit. The services balance stood in surplus at US$5.4bn in 2019, compared with a US$5.2bn surplus in 2018.
