Global CFI has inched up by $0.1/t this week due to a slight increase in coaster rates in the Baltic Sea (Gulf of Finland CFI has risenby $0.51/t, Lower Baltic CFI by $0.27/t), as well as amid higher rates for about 8-12,000 dwt vessels in the Black Sea (BlSea CFI hasgrown by $0.07/t). Sea-river freight rates have added $0.5/t in the Azov Sea. Global ISM Commodity Index has risen by 2.1 points overthe week owing to higher export quotes for Black Sea grain, as well as for scrap and semi-finished steel products. It is worth noting thatsales of Black Sea billets to Turkey have perked up slightly in the commodity market, while the demand for steel remains minimal in Egypt.Turkish importers also express buoyant interest in scrap, but no deals for the supply of the cargo in small lots have been reported thisweek. Exports of Russian grain to Egypt have become brisker, while the trade remains dull in other sales markets. In general, the situationin the commodity markets allows coaster owners to expect slight improvement in small dwt shipments in November.
