TDK has introduced Flip-Type MLCCs in 0510 (EIA 0204) design from its new CGAE series for automotive applications. Depending on the capacitance, the capacitors are designed for rated voltages of 4 to 50 V and cover a capacitance range from 47 nF to 1 μF. All types of the new series are qualified according to AEC-Q200; series production started in January 2020. In contrast to conventional MLCCs, the connections of the electrodes on the flip-type capacitors are rotated by 90°. This results in a wider and, at the same time, shorter current path, leading to lower ESL and ESR values and thus to lower impedances. Thanks to the high efficiency of the capacitors in noise suppression and decoupling, the number of MLCCs required can also be reduced.
