SAE Level-3 Automation –Comparison of Traded and Shared Control

For SAE level-3 and level-4 vehicles, the machine is not always better and safer than humans in everyday traffic situations. Therefore, frequent interactions between the driver and the vehicle will be required. Cruden and Delft University of Technology are investigating these human-machine transitions from manual to automatic mode with a driving simulator and propose the split driving control approach, the so-called Haptic Shared Control.
