Despite owners’ wishes, shipping volumes did not increase on the Danube market in Aug, but still, shipments of European grain perkedup somewhat, resulting in increased demand for tugs and tows. However, freight rates did not grow very noticeably over the month (€0.5-1.5/t up). Navigation conditions on the river are now relatively favorable as the water level remains at 2.6 meters on the rifts. In earlySep, market participants expect the water level to drop to 2.3 meters, but it should return to its current level by mid-Sep.
