Coaster owners keep pushing rates up in North Europe

Coaster owners continue raising rates in the Baltic & Continent. The situation is now looking somewhat ambiguous given large bid/offer gap. So far, there is no acute shortage of open vessels in the region, but the tonnage supply has decreased noticeably, which ispartly referred to some upturn in grain traffic from regional ports, as well as to some recovery of steel scrap shipments. Moreover, quitelively CoA shipments are also covering tonnage in the basin. Also, adverse weather is affecting fleet turnover. This week freight rates haveadded €0.5-1.5/t, depending on the route.
