Despite long holidays and a usual slowdown of trade, demand for coasters in the Mediterranean Sea is well supported by regularshipments of steel products and fertilizers. However, freight rates start sliding down amid growing list of open vessels in the basin.Steels traffic from Turkey remains pretty active. The deal for shipment of 3,000 t of wric (sf 55`) from Marmara to Israel has been fixedat low-mid $30s/t bss FILO with 1500 shex loadrate. Charterers offer mere $8/t for transportation of 4,000 t of debars from Iskenderunto Beirut. The deal for transportation of 4,000 t of debars from Hereke to Durres has been fixed at $17-18/t. Up to 5,000 t of steels havebeen carried from Turkey to N.France at mid €30s/t. Transportation of 5-6,000 t of steel billets from Marmara to Damietta is estimatedby ISM at $16-17/t, though many owners are still seeking to get some $20/t. Brokers suggest low €20s/t for shipment of the same lot ofsteels from Sevilla to Marmara.
