The Mediterranean coaster market has stabilized after some signs of softening that emerged in late Nov. Moreover, brokers and owners note some more excitement from charterers amid upcoming holidays in Europe. An acute shortage of open vessels still allows owners to keep rates at top levels. Fertilizers ex North Africa along with Turkish steels remain the main supporters for owners. The market is looking very positional, with huge gap in rates on similar routes.
