A further upturn in wheat exports from Black Sea ports together with another recovery of mineral and fertilizer shipments ex North Africa allow owners to keep freight rates high in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean region. Steadily brisk traffic of steel products from Turkey, Russia and Ukraine is one more factor playing into owners’ hands. Note that rates for shipments by up to 3-4k dwt vessels have risen by $0.5-1/t, following next rebounds on the Azov sea-river market.
