The small-tonnage shipping market remains inactive in all the freight sections, which is quite to be expected considering ongoing holidays in Russia and Ukraine, as well as given the fact that players from the EU and MENA countries are just returning to work after the New Year. Note that the 1H Jan tonnage list has got longer both in North and South Europe. The Baltic & Continent market is showing the fastest recovery, although the regional cargo offer is also significantly smaller compared to Dec. Owners have managed to prevent the rate collapse in the basin (mere €1-3/t down during two weeks). Ice conditions are still relatively favorable, and ice restrictions have not yet entered into force in the Russian ports of the Gulf of Finland (except for the port of Vysotsk).
