As before, small-tonnage owners are gradually losing ground both in the Mediterranean basin and North Europe despite their maximum efforts to hold their positions throughout Jan. The tonnage list is growing in all basins. In the Baltic & Continent, owners continue to voice quite high freight ideas, but they often make noticeable concessions during negotiations even despite another upturn in bunker prices (+$20-40/t this week). Ice conditions do not restrain the rate fall either as the list of tonnage with an ice class is quite long in the Gulf of Finland. Over the week, rates have sagged by €1-3/t.
