Hip arthroscopy in patients with early arthritis

Our title is controversial, but before we discuss hip arthroscopy in patients with early arthritis, we'd like to start by considering knee arthroscopy in patients with early knee arthritis.A friend and patient had his knee replaced last week. He has scheduled his contralateral knee replacement for next month. He was a world-class athlete, and is still an active instructor and sports-school director despite his age, knee and other arthritis, multiple knee and other surgeries, and multiple knee and other sports trauma. Nonsurgical as well as arthroscopic surgical management of this senior athlete's knees over a course of many decades had allowed a high level of function with manageable pain and postponement of knee arthro-plasty.
