Rediscovering Regionalism Creating Resilience through Empirically Customized Design Strategies

A return to regionalism has been attempted by several movements in the recent past. The Texas Rangers, a group of young professors at The University of Texas at Austin in the 1950s, attempted to reconcile the differences between regional design derived through tradition and the central planning approach of modernism. They believed that the standardized approach of modernism that valued technology, function, and experimentation failed to address the nuances of regional ecology and tradition (Caragonne 1995).
