US EPA proposes approval for new bioherbicide

The US EPA has proposed registration of a new bioherbicide based on the bacterium, Pseudomonas fiuorescens strain ACK55. It is for pre-emergence use to control invasive grasses. The proposal is open to public comment until September 25th. The approval would cover a manufacturing-use product and an end-use product, Battalion Pro. The application was submitted by the minor use pesticide IR-4 programme on behalf of the USDA Agricultural Research Service. Battalion Pro is for use on cereals, grass forage, fodder crops, non-grass feed crops, oilseeds, legumes, tree nuts, and berry and small fruits.
