First global approval for Nihon Nohyaku's benzpyrimoxan in Japan

Japanese company Nihon Nohyaku has received registration in Japan for its new insecticides, Orchestra Flowable and Orchestra Powder (both benzpyrimoxan). That marks the first global approval for benzpyrimoxan. The authorisation is for use in paddy rice. Benzpyrimoxan inhibits moulting of nymphs of plant hoppers and leaf hoppers and reduces pest populations in paddy fields. Benzpyrimoxan is presumed to have a novel mode of action as it has been observed to express high insecticidal activity against the pest population with reduced sensitivity to existing insecticides, the company points out. It says that the product tackles resistance problems in those pests and can be used as part of an IPM strategy.
