EU rethinks organic farming rules

The European Commission has proposed a one-year delay to the implementation of new rules on organic crop farming and outlined plans for a new approach to expanding the sector. The delay is in response to requests for extra preparation time in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The new approach reflects the Commission’s “Green Deal” target to have at least 25% of the EU’s agricultural land under organic farming by 2030.
