US enviros challenge fungicide approval

Environmentalists are challenging another US EPA pesticide approval, alleging that the agency has registered a new fungicide without considering the potential harm to endangered species. Filed in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by the Center for Food Safety and the Center for Biological Diversity, the complaint takes aim at Sumitomo Chemical's inpyrfluxam (trade-marked as Indiflin), a fungicide licensed for use on soybeans, sugar beet, maize, apples, peanuts and several grains. US and Canadian authorities approved the fungicide two months ago.
