EU proposes biocide approval for creosote wood preservative

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has proposed that the EU biocide approval of the wood preservative, creosote, be renewed but with “more stringent” conditions attached to its use. The proposal is a further step in the long-running deliberations over the active ingredient’s re-assessment. Creosote triggers several hazard cut-off criteria, but some member states have argued that no alternatives exist.
